Phuket Society and Population
 

 With an approximate number of over 300,000 people, Thai-Buddhists (70%), Thai-Muslim (25%) and Sea Gypsy (4%) and other (1%). The Phuket population is considered to be extremely tolerant, forgiving and easy-going approach societies in the world. The vast number of the population lives in or around Phuket City and Patong Beach with a majority of Muslim lives on the North-western coastline of the island.

Phuket also has large number of Chinese - Thais who originally migrated to Phuket to work in the tin mines during the 19th century. As a result, you can see several Chinese shrines around the island, including the most famous Vegetarian Festival. Further more, Thai Muslims account 25% who originally settled into the town from Malaysia. However, the number of mosques are actually smaller than Buddhist Temple on the island of Phuket. Presently, with the advent of time, the barriers of culture and religion collapse, different ethnic groups have intermarried and incorporated into the culture bring about model societies of new Phuket - Thailand.
